The pair's romance, which started at Christmas, has ended because they don't see enough of each other Britain's The Star tabloid said long absences had strained the relationship and they were now just good friends.
Both have hectic schedules. Moby, who performs in Perth on July 28, is No. 1 on the British album charts with Play.
He and Portman, 19, who played Queen Amidala in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, are said to have had one of the most low-key relationships in showbiz. The Star said they met at a New York party last year and hit it off because they were both clean living vegetarians.
But Moby said: "She's going to Harvard and I'm a travelling musician. It doesn't make sense to enter into something that you know is eventually going to cause you a lot of pain. The shaven-headed DJ also dismissed rumours he was not interested in sex.
He told The Star: "I'm not saying I have a ravenous, marauding libido. But if I find myself in bed with someone and we're naked, I don't wanna just talk about Oscar Wilde - I wanna enjoy their naked company.
"I'm primarily heterosexual, I'm 98% heterosexual. I'm not asexual at all." Moby is in demand for showbiz bashes and has played at parties for Madonna and Gwenyth Paltrow.
Portman will reprise her role in the next two Star Wars movies.
