(100% Natalie-Portman.net) - I'll make this review quick and formal. The marketing folks were there with their surveys and here were my answers.

How did you rate this movie? (2)
1 Excellent
2 Very Good
3 Good
4 Not Good
5 Poor

Explain: I thought it was a "good" movie. It wasn't a bomb nor was it big blockbuster but it was a feel-good type of movie and I genuinely enjoyed it. The film was equipped with some great acting by heavyweights such as Ashley Judd, Stockard Channing, Sally Field, and Joan Cusack. Ashley Judd was especially great in this movie (not to mention hot) and I would be surprised if she doesn't get nominated for best supporting actress in any of the award shows for 2001. Newcomer James Frain did a great job as male lead. The producer seemed to have picked an actor to compliment Natalie's role as Novalee. Natalie was looking great (as always) and she pinned down the accent perfectly. Natalie did a fine acting job, however, I feel her stage presence was overshadowed by Ashley Judd who seemed to steal the show.

Would you recommend it to a friend? (1)
1 Definitely
2 Yes
3 Maybe
4 Definitely Not

Explain: Yes, I would recommend it as a date movie or to any female friends. The audience seemed to enjoy it and for the humorous parts, I could hear the guys laughing. After the movie ended, there were claps from the crowd which is something I rarely hear. As for my beer buddies, I would probably recommend that they pass it up considering it is a chick-flick.

How did the movie measure up to your expectations? (1)
1 Better
2 About as expected
3 Not as good

The movie measured a lot better than what I expected. I went in there hoping that I'd be able to stay awake. I also hoped that if people left in the middle of the movie, hopefully it wouldn't hamper my ability to enjoy it. Anyhow, nobody left during the movie and I was wide awake up until the end. After the movie ended, I left the theater thinking, "Ahhh, such a refreshing movie."

3 1/2 stars out of 4
